A good book tells a story worth remembering. A great book pulls you in on the journey. Get comfortable, any of these books are sure to hold your attention for a while… and your child’s too 😉

Build Mama, Papa and Baby Bear a forest tree house, with a working swing and a tree fort with this Goldilocks & the Three Bears playset from Storytime Toys. The pieces are m

ade of lightweight EVA foam and high quality card stock and the whole thing is like a giant 3-D puzzle! I love the Goldilocks story that comes with this and I love even more acting it out. This playset comes with three bowls of porridge and it’s fun and easy to put together. I don’t need any tools. I just push out the pieces and work on fitting things together. Here’s a video on how to assemble the house. In the video a grown up puts it together but in my house I do it all by myself. This playset is part of the Fairy Tales collection and I now have them all. They live on the coffee table and I get very upset when Mom suggests we pack them back into their carrying cases. I like to jump in and play!

I love to poke my way through the Poke-A-Dot! An Alphabet Eye Spy book. It’s a 20-page board book with buttons to press and “pop” on every page. I like how it feels and sounds to pop the bubbles. I also like finding the “Eye Spy” items and practicing my ABCs along the way. Once I finish finding the items there are a few pages where I get to poke a bubble for each letter, which I really like too. Mom makes a game out of it and calls out the letter or a word that starts with the letter, or ends with the letter, and I get to pop it. She says she likes the fine motor skills component, whatever that means.

Open this book and up pops a HUGE tree house, complete with many (many!) cardboard characters and items to press out and play with… think of it as paper dolls for the Modern World. It’s terrific!

Welcome to the Tree House Hotel. It’s written by Maggie Bateson and illustrated by Karen Wall, and rather hard to find (when Mom saw it she bought two right away to save one for later). The story revolves around squirrels prepping for a party and a kitten and bunny that are very excited to be the first two guests of the hotel. But then, the kitten goes missing! Now the bunny is on a mission to find him before the party begins. I loved playing the missing kitten. I also loved playing the bunny detective. Most of all, I loved setting up the tree house with the furnishings and the characters. I also really like the Forest Funfair.

In Press Here, written and illustrated by Hervé Tullet, I get to push colorful dots, shake the book, tilt the book, and follow a bunch of super fun instructions. The more tasks I do, the more things happen — dots appear to move to a corner, or change direction, or get bigger. Mom liked this book so much she got it before I was ready for it, so we first used it to learn my colors (but now I use it the way you’re supposed to). I have many books by this author. I’m also a big fan of Let’s Play and Mix it Up!
