trace words preschool

Looking for a tracing activity to help kids practice trace words preschool? Here’s a free word tracing printable that makes a great handout to go with the book Bathe the Cat, written by Alice B. McGinty and illustrated by David Roberts.

This words tracing printable encourages kids to trace three-letter words and slightly longer five-letter words, like: mow, mop, sweep and bathe. It has a line atop that says: _________ the cat. This corresponds with our new favorite book: Bath the Cat. The idea is for children to practice tracing, then choose the silliest thing they’d like to do to the cat — or, you know, bathe the cat.

We think kids will love this writing exercise, since they’ll learn to spell their favorite words from the book. When they write, they’ll practice how to hold a pencil correctly, they’ll practice letter recognition, and they’ll be able to more closely relate to the words on the page. The more they practice, the more they’ll build up their writing muscles and their confidence!

This free tracing activity encourages children to trace upper case letters, while they learn to spell new words.

By the way, if you have a specific word you’d like your child to trace, check out this free handwriting worksheet generator that lets you choose and make the words you’d like your child to practice tracing.
