Shh… there are times to be quiet and then there are times when it’s important to SPEAK UP, loudly and clearly, that’s the message in this book called Speak Up and it’s a great one for the speak up books category in general, particularly given everything that’s going in in the world these days.
I liked learning that it’s OK to politely say that you don’t like something or that it doesn’t seem right. I also liked the different examples, because many times grown ups say things and I don’t exactly know what they mean, but this book had lots of kids showing me. The kids all looked different and I really liked that too.
While at times my Mom thought the message of the book was a bit oversimplified, overall she felt it was a great way of teaching kids, like me, that we all have a voice and with courage, the ability to use it to do some good. We’re on the lookout for more speak up books to share with all of you. Have a favorite? Let us know on Facebook!

Have you used your voice to ask for something to be different? Ooh, tell me about it! Also, while we’re speaking about speaking up, you know who else spoke up and made a BIG difference? Martin Luther King Jr. You can read my review on a book about him here, as well as download a free printable to color Martin Luther King.
