Here is a free printable on a kids safety network to help children better understand who they can turn to in event something in their lives feels not quite right.
This child safety network worksheet was inspired by the book, Let’s Talk About Boundaries, Consent and Respect, written by Jayneen Sanders and illustrated by Sarah Jennings. The book discusses the importance of every child having his or her own safe zone. The idea is if a child is feeling uncomfortable or scared they know they can turn to anybody in their safety network and they will be safe, listened to, believed in, validated, and protected.
As a result, we created this kids safety pdf for kids to really visualize (and color if they’d like!) who might make up their very own safety network. Everyone has at least one or two adults in their lives that they can talk with if they feel sad, lonely, or scared. This kids safety activity asks kids to think about who they can trust and then circle that person on the worksheet. Choices within the safety network for children in this exercise include: mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, a teacher, a school nurse, babysitter, police officer, or a friend’s parent.
We hope this handout on kids safety network begins, or supports, a valuable conversation with a young child on safety and the importance of getting help when one needs it.
