rainbow book

This is THE rainbow book for kids who love rainbows! In Ava and the Rainbow (who stayed), written and illustrated by Ged Adamson, a little girl named Ava gets every rainbow-loving kid’s dream — a rainbow that doesn’t go away. Seem too good to be true? That’s because it turns out it is.

In this beautiful book, a little girl (like me!) and a colorful rainbow become best friends. She talks with the rainbow, reads her favorite books to the rainbow, and plays music. It’s not long before everyone comes to town just to see the rainbow. The rainbow becomes the subject at school, the town mascot, and even t-shirts are made with the rainbow on it. Everyone loves the rainbow but over time, they start to take it for granted.

One day a rainbow overhears a conversation and decides to make a change. While a grown up can easily guess what happens next, I was surprised. I asked several times for an explanation. I wasn’t too sad though, it wasn’t long before rain and sun mixed again and Ava watched her friend add color to the sky.

I really like this book. I love rainbows and I liked seeing the rainbow in the snow and the seasons. I also liked seeing the different events that happened under the rainbow and next to the rainbow. Mom says the message in the book is about appreciating things and not taking the little things for granted. We talked about the holidays and how some of their specialness is tied to how they come and go, making each appearance special.

If you like rainbows, this is definitely a book about rainbows for kids that you should add to your bookshelf!
