This Baby Brains book is so very loved at our home; as is every book we’ve read that’s written and illustrated by Simon James.
The book is about a super smart baby — a genius — actually. Before he was born his parents played music and language tapes, and read to the baby, in hopes of boosting his intelligence. Not long after the baby was born he was able to read the daily newspaper, fix the family car, even speed through school and work as a doctor at the local hospital. It was just a matter of time before the space program came calling. Off goes the super smart baby to space wearing a teeny tiny baby astronaut’s helmet. Then, unexpectedly, the baby misses his mommy and makes it known LOUD and clear. This is my favorite part. Just like the book says: “Even a genius needs his mommy!”
This is a quick book to read and I often ask my parents to read it a few times in a row. I just love that baby astronaut. I’m a big fan of anything space-related and also just about anything by Simon James. James’ Dear Mr. Blueberry is one of my all-time favorite books.
