Flora and the Flamingo, illustrated by Molly Idle is good, old-fashioned, feathery-fun!
I love flipping the pages and lifting the tabs in Flora and the Flamingo. This book is super fun and beautiful! It’s about a girl named Flora who tries to get the attention of a flamingo by mimicking his moves and doing silly things like standing on one leg. At first the flamingo plays hard to get but little by little, Flora’s charm wins him over. Eventually, the flamingo takes Flora under his wing and teaches her how to dance.
This book doesn’t have any words but mom thought it was genius that this wordless book had such a ballet-type look and feel (pink is the main color throughout) and that I could make up the words myself. I liked pretending to be Flora and mimicking her, mimicking the flamingo. I like to pretend to be different animals too. I take ballet class and we sometimes pretend to be animals and I really love that part of class, so if you like to play make believe, you’ll really like this book.
Mom bought this book because she was specifically looking for some wordless books. We’ve been talking a lot lately about how stories have a beginning, middle, and an end. This is a great book to practice that! The author/illustrator has more preschool wordless books that include Flora, like Flora and the Penguin, Flora and the Peacocks, Flora and the Chicks, Flora and the Ostrich, and a Flora and Friends Matching Game.
