This easy ice cream cone craft for kids will walk your though how to make an ice cream cone with very few supplies. To begin, get your free ice cream cone template pdf here. Making this summery-treat is easy for grown ups and very fun for kids!

This easy ice cream cone craft for kids was inspired by the book Jabari Jumps, written and illustrated by Gaia Cornwall. Have you read the book? It’s so great! Check out my review here.

To make a paper ice cream cone you’ll need:

  • ice cream cone template
  • Colored paper (or crayons to color the template; we used: brown, orange, beige and sparkly red papers)
  • Thin black marker
  • Glue (and your adult)
  • Scissors (and your adult)
  • Pom poms (optional)
  • Glittery embellishments (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOW TO MAKE A PAPER ICE CREAM CONE FOR KIDS:

  1. Put brown construction paper under the cone portion of the template and cut along the lines to make the cone portion.
  2. Repeat the process from step 1 with paper under the circle (we used sparkly red paper to represent a cherry).
  3. Repeat again for the ice cream scoop (we used orange paper).
  4. Repeat again for the bottom topping (we used beige paper).
  5. Put some glue along the top edge of the ice cream cone and affix the bottom scoop (see 2:00 mark in video)
  6. Glue each stem onto a carrot. (See 3:52 mark in video)
  7. Add glue to the top of the bottom scoop you just secured and put the top scoop in place.
  8. Glue the cherry on top.
  9. Now decorate your ice cream with colorful pom poms and glittery stickers. If you don’t have any, cut some thin and tiny strips of paper to make sprinkles or grab a crayon and draw some on!
  10. Use a thin black marker to draw some lines diagonally across the cone part to make it look more like an actual cone; then draw lines going across (see 3:35 mark in video).
