This video is all about how to make a carrot patch.

This easy carrot patch craft for kids will walk your though how to make a carrot patch with very few supplies. Plus, the carrots template is free — get it here — making this super easy for grown ups and super fun for kids! Plus, we added letters to teach kids how to spell their names but you can print more copies of the template to spell out the alphabet, work on vowels, consonants, sight words, numbers, and more!

This easy carrot craft for preschoolers was inspired by the book Let’s Grow Vegetables Anne-Sophie Baumann and illustrated by Deborah Pinto. Have you read the book? It’s so great! Check out my review here.

To make a carrot patch you’ll need:

  • Crayons
  • Scissors (and your adult)
  • Glue (and your adult)
  • Black Marker
  • Thin Orange marker (optional)
  • This FREE carrot template
  • One sheet of brown construction paper (8.5″ x 11″)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOW TO MAKE A CARROT PATCH:

  1. Holding construction paper horizontally, fold the bottom part upward, leaving a space the size of three fingers on the top. (See 0:38 mark in video)
  2. Unfold construction paper. Lightly glue the shorter side edges (See 0:55 mark in video). Set aside.
Print this free carrots template then color in the carrots using orange for the vegetable part and green for the stem.
  3. Trace the shape of the carrots along the edge.
  4. Cut out the carrots. Cut out the stems. Make cuts into the top of the stems to be more life-like.
  5. Glue each stem onto a carrot. (See 3:52 mark in video)
  6. Write the letters of your child’s name onto each carrot.
  7. Position the carrots in order inside the construction paper sleeve to make a paper carrot patch (see 4:48 mark in video). If you’re ready to secure the carrots in order, then glue them in. If you’re just teaching your child how to spell their name or using the carrots to spell in other ways, keep them loose!
