This rabbit vs hare book is the funniest thing! The wait for I’m a Hare, So There! was sooooo worth it! I LOVE this book!
You might remember I gave a sneak peek for this rabbit vs hare book called I’m a Hare, So There! written and illustrated by Julie Rowan-Zoch, a while back. The book is about a fed up hare and a cheeky squirrel bugging one another. Mom thought it was a battle of wits to find out who’s who in this hilarious author-illustrator debut for fans of I Yam a Donkey and Grumpy Monkey. The book is all about what happens when a chipmunk mistakes a hare for a rabbit. The hare puts that chipmunk in his place. Except, well, the chipmunk is actually a GROUND SQUIRREL. The book pokes fun at lookalike animals that we all love. It also has a lesson on appreciating differences and standing up for what you know to be true about yourself. And, if you think about it even more… it’s easy to see how you might not like people to call you the wrong thing but then you call someone else the wrong thing! Mom says that’s the irony in the whole thing. I just thought it was super interesting. I also really like how good friends Chippy, I mean the ground squirrel and the rabbit, um hare, become!
At the end of the book there’s a bonus section on animals that are similar but not the same. I thought this was super fun. There was also a page asking if you could spot some Sonoran Desert creatures, which I loved. It added an I-spy element.
