sorting worksheet preschool

This sorting worksheet preschool asks kids to place ingredients in one column and kitchen tools in the other. It’s a fun activity with a baking theme we made as a way to extend the fun on I Am a Little Pastry Chef, by Mayumi Oono.

While for an adult the differences between a tool and an ingredient come naturally… for little kids sorting items into two categories like this takes some thought, as well as practice to fully grasp. The words (tools and ingredients) on this sorting worksheet preschool might be new to some kids too. So, first they have to remember what the words means, then they have to think about the item at hand. It’s more complicated than it seems. And yet categorizing or sorting items is an important cognitive skill that teaches a child to notice similarities and differences. The act of processing all the information and choosing what to do, also helps to develop early literacy and numeracy skills in children.
