You need to check this book review before you buy The Pout-Pout Fish!

I LOVE the Pout Pout Fish! Written by Deborah Diesen and illustrated by Dan Hanna, The Pout-Pout Fish, is one of my very favorite books. I like the different sea life characters. I like the rhyme and the repetitive verses. I love the illustrations and I super love saying the “blub, bluuub, bluuuuuuub” part every few pages.

The Pout Pout Fish is a children’s book about a pouty fish named Mr. Fish. Mr. Fish is always frowning. His friends all tell him he needs to cheer up. Then one day, when he least expects it, a shimmery girl fish gives him a kiss and that turns his frown upside down. Bye, bye, pout! At the end of the book there are some smooches and that’s when Mom or Dad (depends who is reading) kiss me over and over.

My parents love this book. They like that Pout-Pout sprinkles big words like “underside” and “approaches” on different pages. Mom in particular likes to focus on specific parts of the book when it’s her turn to read it. There’s one part where Mr. Fish says “I’d like to be more friendly, but it isn’t up to me.” Every-single-time that Mom reads that part, she says: “Hmm, is that true, Rosie? I’m not sure that’s true,” which means she doesn’t think it’s true. There’s also a line about being “destined to be glum,” which Mom always shakes her head and tells me — “That’s a choice, Rosie. You get to choose how you react to things and you have the biggest role in how you feel.” I learned a lot of synonyms in reading this book. I also learned what a synonym is by reading this book.

On a separate note, there are many children’s books in this pout-pout fish series. Another Pout-Pout book I like is Sweet Dreams, Pout Pout Fish. That’s the book that got me super into brushing my teeth. When I saw that Pout-Pout Fish brushed his “fishy teeth,” I wanted to brush my teeth too!
On a separate yet related note, there are many books in this Pout-Pout series and one is called Sweet Dreams, Pout-Pout Fish. That’s the book that got me super into brushing my teeth. When I saw that Pout-Pout brushed his “fishy teeth,” I willingly wanted to it too!

I think you will like The Pout Pout Fish book. Would you please let Mom and me know what’s your favorite part of this book when you read it? Here’s where to find us:
