When Mom walked in with a stack of books, I immediately wanted her to read ¡Vamos! Let’s Go to the Market. I wanted to know where Little Lobo, the big “little wolf” was going. I needed to know right away why he was running… that was just the cover. Then we opened the book and I had so many questions, it was a real adventure and took us a few tries to get through the whole book.
I loved that everywhere I looked there was something happening. And each time I looked again, I’d find something new! It reminded me of my Richard Scarry books but with palabras in Spanish. I definitely understood the book was set in Mexico and liked the playful comic-like scenes and the cacti. Mom liked that there was strong storyline to follow and that I was learning more Spanish words. The glossary in the back was a real bonus!
At times, I did get a little lost. The book changes its storytelling from narration to first person, its presentation from full page to comic book-like panels, and its language flip flops from Spanish to English. There’s a lot to take in — though it’s all these things that make me want to read it again and again.

Do you know another great book that uses Spanish as part of the storytelling? Tell me más! I love reading in Spanish.
