Yo! I say, Yes? asks Mom — and that’s how we read Chris Raschka’s Yo! Yes? together.
I love that I can ‘read’ this book almost on my own. I ask Mom a lot of questions too like: What’s wrong with that boy? Why is he looking down? Doesn’t he know that other boy wants to play with him? She tells me one boy is shy and the other is outgoing. She loves that one boy is black, the other is white, and despite their differences they end up happy together. I like the rhythm of the book and the artwork, which is made of watercolor and charcoal. Mom likes that we get to act out the story. She says for a book with such a small words, they sure do make a big impression. It surprised both of us that the whole book was only 34 words. This book was awarded the Randolph Caldecott Medal.
