This Earth Day book for kids makes learning about how to take proper care of the planet super fun and engaging!
Ultimate Spotlight: Caring for Earth, is written by Sandra Laboucarie and Sarah Reynard, and illustrated by Julie Mercier. We received an advance copy for review, The book will be out on March 21, 2023, and has so many cool things to look at and things to do – I loved using the spin wheel to see what the leaves on the trees looked like in the different seasons. I had no idea the forest had layers – like canopy for tall trees, sub-canopy for fruit trees, and a shrub layer for fruit bushes! I thought the insect hotel was a really funny idea. I really like dollhouses so that natural home page where you can lift a flap and see the inside of a house kept me busy a really long time. I hadn’t thought about how using a bar of soap instead of body wash could help the planet.
Mom liked that it was easy for me to understand the different bits of information. She liked that many of the examples made sense to me right away. She says she also hadn’t thought of some of the things. She told me it had never occurred to her to use bales of straw to enclose a vegetable garden and thought it was a really neat idea.
If you’re looking for a way to teach kids about caring for the planet, and more importantly, what they can do even as little kids to care for the planet you’re doing to love this book. Here’s a printable with words to spell that includes the sun – a great tie into this book!
