The Hungry Bunny book is like a book and a toy all in one! It’s a fun read anytime, especially for Autumn with the many golden leaves and red apples throughout the book. GRR, the story is about a bunny with a rumbling tummy who needs help picking apples so his mom can bake a pie. My favorite part of Hungry Bunny is that I get to help — I get to shake the book to make apples fall from the tree, blow leaves out of the way, tilt the book to give the bunny a boost, and even help him along the way by using his scarf as a tight rope (there’s a red ribbon attached to the book that you’re supposed to pretend is the bunny’s scarf). There are many others ways I get to help too but I don’t want to spoil the surprises for you.
My Mom loves Hungry Bunny too and its charcoal illustrations. She loves the many different ways I get to help the bunny. She says it gives me ideas for creative problem solving in the real world. Mom is a big fan of Carla Rueda, the author/illustrator, and likes her warm humor. We have many of her books. This one, like some of the others, ends with a super sweet surprise. You might even feel a little hungry by the last page. Take a look at these pictures from inside the book:
