pete the cat book

My teacher said this Pete the Cat book written by James Dean and illustrated by Eric Litwin was her favorite in a video that was sent to my parents before the school year began last fall. Right away, we ordered a copy. I hadn’t yet read a Pete the Cat book. Boy, was this fun! I’m a big fan of Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons.

When you read this book you’re actually singing a counting down from four to zero. You see, Pete the Cat is wearing his favorite yellow shirt but he one by one he keeps losing buttons. Each time one pops off, does Pete cry? Goodness, no! He just keeps on singing his song, which is what makes this book so great.

This Pete the Cat book is a past winner of the Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Award, a prestigious yearly award that recognizes a distinguished American book for beginning readers.

The pages in this book were super colorful and entertaining. I love Pete the Cat’s expressions. I also really like his upbeat, positive, attitude. I mean, he keeps losing buttons on his favorite shirt and yet he just goes with the flow!

I also really like the many different ways we can read and sing this book. I see why my teacher likes it so much. I think you’ll like it too!
