Here’s an alphabet book that kids will love for a reason most grown ups might take for granted – as adults flip through the book kids can say the “words” aka the individual letters that are part of the text, and have the experience of reading, even if they can’t string letters together yet.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom written by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault, and illustrated by Lois Ehlert, is a beloved classic in bold colors and a bouncy rhyme-like chant: “A told B, and B told C, I’ll meet you at the top of the coconut tree.”
I loved seeing how many letters could fit into the coconut tree. The cheery colors were super fun and I liked that I could help mom read me this book before I could actually read. Oh no! The letters fell down but oh yay, I was secretly happy I got to read the letters again as they tried to climb up.
This alphabet book has the alphabet in order, which I really liked too.
We made some really fun activities to go with this book, like:
I Spy alphabet – can you spy your name?
Coconut tree breathing exercise, which doubles as a coconut tree coloring sheet
If you liked this alphabet book, I think you will also like:
Bathe the Cat (lots of colorful letters here too!)
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? (Another Bill Martin Jr book!)
Poke-A-Dot book (poke the alphabet!)
